The street art and the freedom of speech, in Grenoble by Timothée

This street art named "l'état matraquant la liberté" has been realized in Grenoble by GOIN.

On the right-hand side of this street art, there is the character "Marianne" coloured in black and white, and who holds a damaged french flag. This flag is the only thing coloured in the entire street art. There are books under Marianne's left arm. The right arm of Marianne is in front of his head : Marianne tries to protect himself.

On the left-hand side and in the middle of this art, there are twoofficers of riot police. Both hold truncheons, and they are ready to hit Marianne. The officer of the middle hold a riot shield, on which is written "49-3".

This scene is a contrast between Marianne, who was paint by Eugène Delacroix in 1830, and the riot police, which appeared in more recent times.

Through the use of riot police and Marianne, GOIN wants to show the government and the liberty, and the danger who represent the government for this liberty. By using the damaged flag next to Marianne, the author shows that the liberties are already restricted.

After the creation of this street art, the mayor of Grenoble reacted to this art and have say that no one can restrict the freedom of speech, and he didn't censor this art. So, in the government, there are persons who can't appeared as the officers of this art. That's reassuring.
