Murals and Street art in Monterrey.
Adriana Holguín
The largest mural in the country is right here in Monterrey, specifically it is found in the "Loma Larga" tunnel.
The size is 60 × 20 meters, and it is the largest space dedicated to such a piece.
But it is also the most questioned and criticized, since it was learned that the person in charge of this work would be the artist Jerónimo López Ramírez “Dr. Lakra ”, the opinions of disagreement began and now that it is finished the opinions have not stopped.
The work features skeletons, snakes, bats, insects, crabs, chains, a fork, and a knife. Images that turn out to be disliked by several and appreciated by others. It was recently declared Artistic and Cultural Heritage of the municipality of San Pedro, thus making it a renowned work for the entire area.
In the other side there are very different urban art expressions such as the "Altamira neighborhood", in the southern part of Monterrey, has been lucky to change its appearance.

Under a social project to recover spaces, the "Tomate" (Tomatoe) collective together with government gathered more than 50 artists from all over México to have their art, paint and brushstrokes, stories, legends and anecdotes on the facades of various houses. The end result consists of more than 93 murals, each with a different message, but with the same goal, to transform our relationships and transform our community.
